The General Education Bureau
At the end of the year the 2003 Guadalajara’s City Council creates, by decree, the General Education Bureau. This institution has the purpose to operate the educational public policy at the municipal level. To do so, this organization must achieve, by municipal regulation, the following objectives:
- Integrate and tie popular education special projects.
- Coordinate the performance of federal, state and municipal educating programs.
- Select and apply the curricular programs offers by the municipal academies.
- Attend the improvement, in a subsidiary way, of the municipal schools.
- Administer the Popular Education Centers.
- Increase the municipal educative services quality.
- Maintain updated the municipal academies curricular programs.
- Celebrate agreements in order to offer jobs opportunities to the municipal academies students.
- Establish information modules about the educative supply access.
- Coordinate the "Jose Vasconcelos" recognition and prize to the Educational Excellence and the "Educating with Values" Infantile Recognition.
The General Education Bureau, in order to achieve the objectives, has three offices: Popular Education and Municipal Academies Office; Compensatory Programs Office; Special Projects Office.
The Special Projects Office coordinates all the activities in the program of "Guadalajara, Educating City", program that can be outlined its path with the following main activities:
- In November of 2004 attended the 8º Congress in Genoa, Italy.
- In April of the 2005 the City Council approves to ask for the adhesion of Guadalajara to the IAEC.
- In May of 2005 the IAEC declares Guadalajara as Educating City.
- In September of 2006 attended the 9º Congress in Lyon, France.
- In April of 2006 registered 9 educational experiences into the BIDCE.
- In April of 2006 presented Guadalajara the candidacy for the 10º Congress of the IAEC.
- In July of 2006 the program of the RecreActive Route was registered into the BIDCE as a successful experience.
- In June of 2007 attended the First National Encounter of Mexican Educating Cities in Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo.
- In August of 2007 attended the Second National Encounter of Mexican Educating Cities in Tlaxcala, Tlaxcala
